Just wanted to share a couple snaps from I-5 last week, when I went up to CalArts for the first time in months. It’s really a beautiful drive, but this is easy to forget when you’re obliged to make it 3-5 times per week. After the summit, the bright white horizontals of tract houses in Stevenson Ranch begin to creep up the sides of the hills. The mountains here were scraped to build this residential development (est. 1996, according to a plaque at the entrance), which is part of the patchwork “city” of Santa Clarita. I lived in Stevenson Ranch for a time, but even my fantastic roommates couldn’t make up for its dismal psychological environment, and after one academic year I moved down to Los Angeles.
