On the way into downtown Friday morning, I noticed a strange cloud hovering above the horizon.
I figured it had to be from a fire, but not until I crossed over the 5 did I spot the source: some type of warehouse building near the Metro tracks, billowing black smoke. I wondered if my fellow freeway drivers were noticing or curious about this. But I suppose you can’t spend much time gawking when you’re going 60 m.p.h.
I scoured the internet for details later in the day. Not even KCAL had any mention, which made me begin to doubt anything had even happened (terrible how media coverage functions in society). Though I suppose someone must have been Tweeting about it… like the Fire Department. I eventually found an alert on their website:
*UPDATE: 1630 N Main St* KNOCKDOWN: 39 FF’s extinguished (transformers?) fire in 23 min; No injury; No evac; Cause & media contact = LADWP – Brian Humphrey###
Thirty-nine L.A. city firefighters used L.A. city water to extinguish a blaze caused by L.A. city power? Excellent work, guys.
just as an aside, in that last photo, the greenery growing over that concrete looks ANIMATE… like tendril fingers creeping over! I love it.
Another example of how nature is always just barely being held in check here…
