A precise replica of Lady Bird Johnson’s office, located on an upper floor of the Lyndon B. Johnson Library & Museum on the University of Texas campus in Austin.
To my astonishment, the oval office is also installed — at 7/8th scale, including the wooden risers LBJ added to the base of the desk. (“President Johnson was a large man,” says the tour guide.) And all I can think of is Umberto Eco’s Travels in Hyperreality… which could bring us back to Torino!
