Turns out the spectacle was a block from my destination. Funny how that happens. I found out later that a man on his bicycle had fallen into the river &#8212; usually somewhere between placid and stagnant, but today a relatively raging rapids thanks to the storm.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-355\" title=\"IMG_6718\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.slowtale.net\/diary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/IMG_6718-1024x768.jpg?resize=460%2C343\" alt=\"IMG_6718\" width=\"460\" height=\"343\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The fire department (and four helicopters? I guess most of them belonged to TV news) was trying to get him out, but apparently he didn&#8217;t want to leave his bike behind.
