Glendale, CA

We ended up at the new mall in Glendale the other day, and came across this building and its lovely façade of simple but delicate masonry. It looked old — as in, from at least the earlier part of the last century — but because of its situation at the edge of the Americana’s “old towne” pastiche, it took us a comical amount of time to decide that its historic look was actual rather than simulated. The building behind is a vast, vacant warehouse space, with arced wooden rafters. And it’s for rent. Maybe an Islands or BJ’s will move in.

The edge of Americana

And then on Los Feliz Boulevard in the evening, a big fan of the all-American Sport Chalet. Could they really be Swiss brethern?
